PI - Year 1 Holi Festival

This event will take place between 8:30am and 2:00pm on 06/03/2026

This half term the children will be learning about the Hindu festival “Holi” as part of our RE unit. Holi celebrates spring, love and new life.  It is a fun time involving dancing, singing and bright colours and is often called the Festival of Colours. As part of this celebration, people throw powder paint to decorate their skin. We want the children to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in this important festival to support their understanding of different religions in our community.

We will be outside on the Junior school field listening to music and throwing non-toxic powder paint. The children will be wearing a protective face shield to protect their eyes, nose and mouth, with water bottles to hand. Therefore, we would like you to send in some old clothes for your child to wear during this celebration to create a memorable learning experience. These clothes will get messy so please send in old clothes that you don’t mind being covered in paint.  If your child does not have old clothes on the day their class is celebrating, unfortunately they will be unable to participate.

Your child will need to bring their old clothes, in a named bag, on Friday 6th March.

We hope this will be an enjoyable and memorable experience for the children to really enhance their learning and help their metacognition. If you would like to learn more and share the learning with your child here is a video all about Holi: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/assemblies-ks1-ks2-holi-festival-holika-prahlad-krishna-radha/zqxtqfr
