Allergies

At Padnell Infant School, the safety, wellbeing and inclusion of every child is our highest priority. We recognise that allergies can have a significant impact on daily life and that severe allergic reactions can occur quickly and unexpectedly.

In line with the principles of Benedict's Law, we have developed comprehensive allergy policies, procedures and strategies to safeguard children and adults with known allergies, as well as those who may experience an allergic reaction for the first time. Benedict's Law promotes a consistent approach to allergy awareness in schools, including staff training, emergency preparedness, allergy management plans and access to emergency medication.

Allergy Awareness for Everyone

Allergy safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage our whole school community to:

  • Respect allergy management measures put in place.
  • Avoid sharing food, drinks or eating utensils.
  • Follow guidance relating to allergen-safe practices.
  • Inform the school promptly of any new allergy diagnosis or medical updates.

Emergency Response

All staff are trained to recognise the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis. In the event of a serious allergic reaction, staff will follow emergency procedures immediately, administer emergency medication where appropriate and seek urgent medical assistance.

Working Together

We believe that through partnership with families, staff and healthcare professionals, we can create a safe environment where every child feels secure, supported and able to thrive.
